Amherst & Northampton, MA

Hampshire College

Hampshire’s campus is probably the smallest of the Five Colleges, but it is set on an idyllic wooded hillock surrounded by farmland at the base of the Mount Norwottuck. It’s a nice spot for quiet run, utilizing the paths between academic buildings, a loop through a peaceful forest behind campus, and small stretch on the scenic sidewalk along Route 116 for a rough 5 km. Start from any visitor parking area on campus, or begin from nearby Atkin’s Market. There are some additional trails around some farmland owned by the college that are a pleasure for running.

Add-Ons: W. Bay Rd. has some nice rural farmland running, but not much of a shoulder. Trail runners will like nearby Mt. Holyoke Range State Park, which has 30 miles of traiols.
