Amsterdam North & Noorderpark

Take a ferry or metro over to Amsterdam North for some nice running variety. North Amsterdam was a historically industrial area, but has gradually transformed into an arts and cultural area, with trendy galleries, cafes, and restaurants. It is a lot less crowded and touristy here. The best running options here are:

Waterfront area: Pleasant ‘sight running’, with great cafes, the EYE Filmmuseum, pleasant neighborhoods such as Nieuwendam, Ransdorp and Zunderdorp, and great parks and waterside running. Sticking mainly to the waterfront is a 3.5 km out and back. For a longer run, it’s 1.4 km along the Buiksloterweg canal path to Noorderpark.

Noorderpark Loop. Amstderdam’s newest park. Very green, with running on each side of the canal that bisects the park. A loop of Noorderpark and neighboring, more wooded Vliegenbos is 5.3 km. The lovely canal path north of Noorderpark goes another 1.4 km one-way north to the A10.

North of the A10, there are lovely pastoral roads past farmland and along canals.
