Athens, Greece

Syngrou Forest/Estate

Source: Greeking.me

This is a forest about 15 km northeast of Athens, on the border between Kifissia and Maroussi. Some 950 acres of trails, many of them wooded/shaded. One of the best green spaces within some proximity to Athens, and great for running. The trails are not too difficult or technical but are hilly. The area is right off the main highway, and is bordered on the west side by the Institute of Agronomic Sciences, several corporate offices including Microsoft, and the KAT General Hospital.

A full loop around the perimeter is about 2.7 miles, and there are good interior trails for adding on. There aren’t that many wayfinding signs with the park, so be prepared. PRO TIP: Especially lovely in spring, as wildflowers emerge.

The land belonged to Andreas Sygrou, a successful and wealthy businessman. There is a lovely variety of open fields and wooded trails, with many types of trees and vines.
