Features:
Mount Lycabettus is a distinct feature of Athens, rising 300 meters (900 feet) from the city. Pine trees cover its base, and at its two peaks are the 19th century Chapel of St. George, a theatre, and a restaurant.
This is a beautiful route, with great views. It is also a popular tourist site. A good bet for most runners is the peripheral path around the hill, which is about 3km, although the area can get busy with traffic. One can also try the more ‘direct’ route up the hill to the amphitheatre. It is short but has grades of up to 16%. Take the stairs track, running from the funicular up to the church on the top.There are other wooded paths on the hill than can be run.
A furnicular leads up the hill, from Kolonaki railway station on Aristippou Street.
Note:Â sometimes this route is hindered by passing cars or traffic jam, especially in the rush hour.
