Birmingham, AL

Homewood Neighborhood

Homewood, south of downtown, is one of the prettiest neighborhoods in Birmingham — especially loved for its walkability and parks system. This ward is lined with beautiful sidewalks, cute homes, and several green parks. While most streets in the area are runnable, some of the best stretches include Oxmoor Road and Broadway Street. Runners can loop the streets together starting at the Homewood Public Library. Run west on Oxmoor, past Homewood Central Park, to a little business center at the intersection with Broadway. Turn LEFT down Broadway and follow it to the intersection with Saulter Road. Cross over Griffin Brook and turn LEFT up South Forest Drive. Near Woodland Park, turn RIGHT onto Edgewood Boulevard and follow it to Roseland Drive. Then, turn LEFT onto Ridge Road, back to the library. This makes for a pleasant 3.7 mile route.

For additional options, see some of the courses mapped out by the Trak Shak, a fab running store located in downtown Homewood. Of course, you can modify and create your own route through this attractive neighborhood, or incorporate with the Shades Creek Greenway, just to the south.
