In an effort to promote citywide recreation, Bogota closes 76 miles of main streets to car traffic every Sunday and holiday from 7 am until 2 pm. This frees up a vast network of streets for biking, strolling, and of course, running. If you happen to be in town on a Sunday or holiday, you can create your own route using the open roads on the Ciclovia map. The city has mapped out a few loop suggestions as well — they are intended for cycling, so some of them are quite long, but the Southwest route is 10.6 km, and the Complementary Circuit is 13.6 km. For an out and back, the stretches along Avenida Boyaca and Avenida 7 are good choices.

This is a great opportunity to run on some streets that are normally full of traffic or that don’t have good sidewalks.
