South End Highlights

The South End is a wonderful neighborhood for running in Boston. The main streets feature elegant buildings, restaurants, and eclectic shops. The side roads are lined with Victorian-era residences and brownstones.

We’ve designed two tours: ‘Main streets’ of the South End features the longer streets such as Tremont St. and Washington St., which provide nice, seamless running without too many turns, and good sidewalks. The ‘Historic Squares’ run features some of the lovely areas laid out by Charles Bullfinch, such as Blackstone Square, Franklin Suare, Concord Square, Union Square, and Union Park. Pleasant, tree-lined streets connect the squares.

Essentials
  • Main Streets: 4.4 miles RT; Historic Squares: 5.3 miles RT
  • Public Garden at Arlington St. & Boylston St.
