Florianópolis ‘Runseeing’ Tour

Florianópolis Centro_Historico_
CC: Komodo Deville

We’ve put together a pleasant ‘runseeing’ tour of Florianópolis featuring lots of elements –pedestrianized streets in the central commercial zone, scenic colonial architecture, a suspension bridge, and two running tracks! Overall, the route is 8 km, with shorter & longer options.

Start at Praça XV de Novembro, which has some gorgeous large specimen trees. Head toward the water on the mainly pedestrianized R. Felipe Schmidt for 1.5 km. There’s interesting colonial architecture, fun shopping, and the Catedral Metropolitana de Florianópolis. At Parque da Luz, RIGHT on Av. Lamego, for a short jaunt to the running track. Retrace your steps, and continue along Av. Lamego to the Ponte Hercílio Luz — a car free suspension bridge crossing the bay and featuring great views. [Option: can access our waterfront route to add some scenic km!]. Return along the bridge, and then run through the center along Av. Mafra, which is also mainly for pedestrians.

Here’ you’re at 6 km. Our final section adds 2.3 km to the route, running on the cycle path in the median of Av. Hercílio Luz to the IFSC Florianópolis campus, where there’s also a terrific running track.

Add-Ons: From behind the IFSC, ambitious runners can add the hills up to the Parque Natural Municipal do Morro da Cruz, which includes a great viewpoint. Our Florianópolis Waterfront route on the Estreito side of the Hercílio Luz bridge.
