Harwich Run

The most popular running in Harwich is the spur of the Cape Cod Rail Trail, which leaves the main CCRT near Harwich Ctr. and goes about 5 miles east to Chatham.

In addition to that option, we’ve created a run that features some of the pleasant side roads off Rt. 28 in Harwich, the highlight of which is the section along Red River Beach. We start at the bike trail at Depot Rd. Cross Rt. 28, and Depot Rd. turns into Uncle Venies Rd. It’s a little over 1 mile to the beach. You can run along the beach (depending on conditions), or along the Red River Beach parking lot road, which has good views, about 3/4 mile. For the return, head back on Uncle Venies, and right on S. Chatham Rd., which turns into Deep Hole Rd. and then bears left on Pleasant St., for 1.5 miles to Rt. 28. Parts of this road are pleasantly open. Return to the start via Rt. 28 and Depot Rd.

For variety, you can do a loop back the other way from Red River Beach, using Deep Hole Rd. or Old Wharf Rd.  to Julien Rd.
