River Elbe Paths

The waterfront paths along the River Elbe are the highlights of running in Hamburg, and sections of these walkways are featured in many of our routes. However, it’s possible to run along the river for miles upon miles, starting from any of the neighborhoods outside Hamburg. We’ve mapped out the full 17 km from the center westward, with a table indicating segment distances. From the center of the city, runners can start on the Elbpromenade, just south of the Baumwall (Elbphilharmonie) U-Bahn Stop, and run west. (East of Baumwall, the path splits along several canals). Aside from the Elbpromenade, favorite spots include the Falkensteiner Ufer beachfront, and the area south of Jenischpark.

Essentials
  • Up to 17.8 km (11.03 miles) one way
  • 30 meters (98 feet)
