Hawaii "The Big Island," HI

Walua Road — Kona

This 6 mile out and back is popular with bikers, walkers, and joggers, as it’s a quieter, less trafficked option in the Holualoa area, near Kamoa Point and Magic Sands Beach Park.  Start just off Lako Street, mauka (towards the mountain) of Kuakini Highway. Part of the route is closed to traffic, but with some sections exposed on a residential road. The first three miles of this route gain elevation steadily, especially after the first 1.5 miles, but after the turnaround at 3 miles, the run is a fun and fast downhill.

Essentials
  • 6 miles (out and back)
  • 527 feet
  • Intersection of Lako Street and Walua Road
  • Kuakini Highway
