Istanbul Old Town ‘Runseeing Tour’

This is a ‘Runseeing Tour’ of Istanbul Old Town, in the Sultanahmet, highlighting some of the main sights from the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires. It was inspired by Keith Hauser of joggingroutes.org. Please click on the link for a detailed description of sights and directions. Try to do this 5k loop early, to beat the crowds (and heat, in summer).

Highlights of the route include: The Blue Mosque, Tokapi Palace Grounds, the Hagia Sophia, beautifully restored buildings along the Kutlugun, and a jaunt along the water. The final section includes Cap Ariz, with its feel of a fishing village, and an uphill section along Ustad.

There are good options to add to this run by adding a couple of miles along the water, following Kennedy Cadessi.

Essentials
  • 5km (3.1 miles) loop
  • 150 feet
  • Egyptian Obelist at the Hippodrome
  • T1 Tram Line: Sultanahmet
