The Lafitte Greenway is a brand new bike and pedestrian path opened in 2015 that connects the French Quarter to City Park. The path features sports fields, grassy lawns, 500 newly planted trees, LED lighting, and innovative water and storm management features.
The Basin St. trailhead is near the French Quarter, at Basin St. & St. Louis St. The path continues to the Alexander St. trailhead, which is just southwest of City Park. Good public transport options — just use the Canal St. streetcar, which parallels the Greenway, and walk 4 blocks northeast/downriver to connect to the trail.
