Haleakala National Park

There aren’t many places where one can run on a 10,000-foot oceanside volcano, so you might as well take advantage of this grand adventure while visiting Maui. It’s a tough one, but running in Haleakala National Park offers, elevation, great views, cooler weather than he rest of the island. You can pick your starting point from the pastures off Crater Road (Haleakala Highway), but most runners start at about mile 11, just after the road enters the National Park. Particularly special from the summit at sunrise. Note: Narrow road, little or no shoulder. It can also be cold, windy, and wet, above 5,000 feet, so dress accordingly

Alternative Option: Run Downhill!  Arrange to be dropped off at the summit (for sunrise!) and then run down. NOTE: Reservations required for sunrise viewing.  www.recreation.gov

Some of the designated hiking trails are suitable for running.
