Eastern Shore Trail, Gator Alley Boardwalk

This long paved route runs 32 miles along the east side of the Mobile Bay from the USS Alabama Memorial Park at Battleship Causeway to Mullet Point. It’s not all an ideal path for running — some of the route utilizes higher traffic roads and is more sidewalk than trail — but there are some scenic off-road sections that make for great runs. Our favorite section is the Gator Alley Boardwalk in Daphne. This wooden pathway overlooking D’Olive Creek is a great place to spot wildlife, including (you guessed it!) gators. Runners can park at the large shopping area on North Main Street and follow the sidewalk west. Following signs for the Eastern Shore Trail/Gator Alley Boardwalk, cross over North Main Street and follow the boardwalk, which continues under I-10 and up to the Spanish Fort Overlook. As an out and back, the route is about 2.5 miles. The other roads in this area aren’t great for running. Wide, with lots of traffic. There is an adequate shoulder.

Longer Run: Connect with other sections of the Eastern Shore Trail (some sections nicer than others).
