Wissahikon Valley Park/Forbidden Drive

This 1,800 acre park north of Fairmount Park, also known as Valley Green, is located in the northwest section of Philadelphia, is a wonderful escape and a great places for a run.  There are 50 miles of miles of mostly wooded, rugged trails that are popular for hiking, walking, and  trail running. For an easier run, there’s a wide, flat gravel trail that parallels along Wissahikon Creek for five miles (also known as ‘Forbidden Drive’, a road closed to cars). There are numerous wooded trail options that also provide some hill opportunities. The park is very popular with mountain bikers.

Group runs: the Wissahikon Wanderers has group runs Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. The Shawmont Running Club has group runs there Saturdays 7:30 am.
