Pistoia and Prato

For those visiting Florence, the nearby towns of Pistoia and Prato are often part of the itinerary. There are a couple of particular ‘destinations’ in these towns worthy of planning a run!

Pistoia: Villoni Puccini. This “City Park” is 3 km from the center of the medieval town of Pistoia. It’s a very pretty park, with a dirt road, and path around a pond. One can easily put together 2-3 km or running here. Access from via Dalmazia.  Note: Park has set opening hours. Pistoia itself is pleasant for running, with interesting narrow streets, alleys, and sites in the old town. Make sure you include Fontanello di Monteoliveto and Largo del Molinuzzo in your route!

Prato: In addition to the lovely city center, there are three good options for running in Prato: The path along the river, called the Pista Ciclabile Gino Bartali, for 3 km along the water; some lovely paths in the Parco di Galceti, which has some pretty paths for running as well as a nature center; and the extensive Natural Protected Area of Monteferrato, which has many roads and trails good for hiking and hill/trail running.
