Beirut, Lebanon

The Corniche

The Corniche is the most popular place to run in Beirut. The run along the Mediterranean coast, starting in Ain al-Mreisse features great water views for most of the way. There’s a good sidewalk along General De Gaulle Road, with a promenade/path in sections.

The preferred route is to head south, from Ain al-Mreisse to the Raouche Rocks, a distance of 7.5 km out and back. We start at Zaitunay Bay, where there’s a large cluster of waterfront hotels and restaurants. You’ll pass the American University of Beirut, the famed Luna Park (amusement park on the coast), and the Raouche Rock formations. Heading south, one-way distances are:

  • 1.4 km: American University of Beirut
  • 3 km: Luna Rock
  • 3.7 km: Raouche Rocks
  • 7 km: Coral Beach

It’s also possible to run the 3 km one-way from Ain al-Mreisse to the Beirut Port. It’s not as seamless along the water, but still pleasant and runnable.

Essentials
  • 3.7 km (2.3 miles) one-way from Ain al-Mreisse to Raouche Rocks; 7 km (4.3 miles) to Coral Beach
  • 202 feet over the full 7 km to Coral Beach
  • Zaitunay Bay - Rafic El Hariri
