A favorite race among locals is the Charlevoix Half/Full Marathon, which follows the mostly flat trajectory of the 26-mile Little Traverse Wheelway, just north of Traverse City. The race runs from Charlevoix up to Bay Shore, but the bike path stretches on even further north through Petoskey. Much of the paved, dedicated path follows busy Route 31.
The most scenic section for running is the ~3 miles between Lake Michigan Shores State Park, east though the Loeb Nature Preserve, to the intersection with Nine Mile Point Rd., where the trail turns inland. Good water views and parks along this stretch.
