Near Airport/Richmond: Iona Beach Jetty

Author photos. Cover photo is heading out, this is heading back.
Close to the airport in Richmond, Iona Regional Park offers a 4 km long jetty. This is a terrific spot for an out and back of up to 8 km (5 miles), with ocean views all around. On the route out, you’ll see downtown and the mountains of North Vancouver, and Pacific Spirit Regional Park/Wreck Beach to your right. There is an ‘upper level’ of gravel surface and a paved edge, and a lower level, also gravel surface. Totally flat – a good place to so intervals!

There’s also a beach, but the sand is better for walking than running. There are a couple of shelters along the way and restrooms at the trailhead and at the end of the jetty. Ample parking. Note: the trail is quite exposed to wind and weather.
