Running around ‘The Bays’ is the classic Wellington Run. It’s also a classic lunchtime run for Wellington residents! A road follows the waterfront around several bays, for nearly 30 km. There’s a paved waterfront path or sidewalk the whole way, with great water views. Hop on at any point or Choose a section! There are markers every 500m.

Starting at Queen’s Wharf in central Wellington, follow the waterfront path around Oriental Bay for 3 km, then around Evans Bay. It’s 12 km to the Massey Memorial at the end of the Miramar Peninsula. Continue around the peninsula on its east side, to Breaker Bay. Wahine Memorial Park is at 21 km. Continue around Lyall Bay, passing the Airoport Evans Bay, and then along Houghton Bay. At 29.5 km, reach the Wellington University Eco Lab at the ~30 km mark. Here, you could shortcut back to central Wellington — it’s 7 km using Happy Valley Rd. or The Parade (note: hilly!).

Add-Ons: There are numerous parks and preserves along the way with additional paths & overlooks, particularly on the east side of Miramar. Another nice side jaunt is the Te Raukawa Moana Lookout.
