Ellicott Creek Paths, Ellicott Creek Park, Univ. of Buffalo

In the northeast part of Buffalo in Tonawanda, there are some terrific running options in the area of Ellicott Creek Park, with 15+ miles of paths incorporating the park, along the Erie Canal, along Ellicott Creek, and around the campus of the University of Buffalo. We’ve mapped a couple of route options, which can be used as a guideline for creating your own route of desired length.

Ellicott Creek Park to White Chapel. This run starts at Ellicott Creek Park. which borders Ellicott Creek and the Erie Canal. This route features the paved ~1 mile path through the park, and then 2 miles along the Erie Canal on a paved multi-use path alongside Creekside Dr.  as far as the White Chapel cemetery. It includes a fun 0.5 mile jaunt around Ellicott Island Park. There are some nice water views and lovely foliage.  Add-On: the Ellicott Creek Trail extends for ~5 miles south of Ellicott Creek Park (below).

Ellicott Creek Trail. There’s a network of trails and paths along Ellicott Creek and the University of Buffalo. From Ellicott Creek Park, there’s a path that follows Ellicott Creek for ~5 miles south. The first 2 miles are right along the creek, then for the next 3 miles the path is a bit inland from the creek in sections. From the southern end of the creek path near Maple Rd., we’ve mapped a return through the University of Buffalo, using some of the main trails through campus, as well as the network of trails around Lake La Salle and Kanazawa Island. There’s a good running track at UB Stadium. In all, this is 11.5 miles,  — so use our route to choose a section.
