Barranquilla, Colombia

Creative Commons

Barranquilla is the capital district of Colombia’s Atlántico department and is the country’s fourth largest city. Located in the Caribbean coast region, Barranquilla lies on the Magdalena River. Outside the riverfront paths, running in Barranquilla isn’t great, as there are few large green spaces. There’s an ambitious effort to greenify the city with numerous small parks.

The best place to run in Barranquilla is the 5 km Malecón del Río along the Magdalena River. And just 15-minutes north is more scenic waterfront running in Las Flores. We’ve also put together a ‘runseeing’ tour of the Centro Histórico, & Paseo de Bolívar — the city’s most important commercial street. See also our guide to the best Barranquilla neighborhoods for running.

Note that Barranquilla‘s weather is hot and humid year-round, with distinct wet and dry seasons.
