Düsseldorf’s ever-evolving harbor is a mix. There are some lovely sections, with great paths and water views, and some other, more industrial sections. The buildings are newer and there’s some interesting architecture. As part of the area’s continued improvements, there’s a fair bit of construction in parts.  We’ve put together a 9 km loop, with options for longer or shorter.

A great place to start is at the Communications Tower (Rheinturm). Head south, over a pedestrian bridge, with great water views. This next section, along the Parlamentsufur path, is pleasant along the water. Keep following the path along the water, golf course on your right, and paralleling Am Fallhammer. Continue along this particularly green section of path, crossing Auf den Kuhlen and past the rowing club and brew house, as far as the highway. At the turnaround point, the option is to double back along the trail or take one of the residential streets such as Hinter der Böck (newer, not charming) back to the harbor. The last section heading back north parallels the trolley line, on Fringsstraße and Holzstraße, and then along the water.

Shorter Option: Can save 2.4 km by taking a left on Auf den Kuhlen and not doing the river path.

Essentials
  • 9 km (5.6 mile) loop; Shorter option saves 2.4 (pretty) km.
  • 128 feet
  • Rheinturm (Communications Tower)
  • Trolley nearby
