Raleigh-Durham, NC

American Tobacco Trail

VisitNC.com

A 22+ mile rails to trails project that makes for a good run. Mainly wooded. The trail starts in downtown Durham, and heads south to Chatham and ends near the more rural Jordan Lake Game Lands. It’s paved for the first 14 miles, and a gravel surface for the final 8 miles. The section from miles 10-14 has both paved and gravel.

Th American Tobacco Trail (ATT) is a good place to run right from downtown Durham or near Duke University. Link to the maps, which show the trail with mile markers, including major landmarks. It’s 4 miles to MLK Parkway, 7 miles to Rt. 40, and 10 miles to Scott King Rd.

There are lots of opportunities to add-on or take spurs. The northern section of the ATT runs into the North/South Greenway that runs through Duke and along Warren Creek.

  • Up to 22 miles
  • Gently Rolling - 758 feet of gain over 22 miles, fairly balanced
