Mount Washington Resort & Bretton Woods

Running up the long driveway of the The Mount Washington Resort, with its famed red roof, wrap around porch, and Mount Washington in the background, is a highlight. One of the old Grand Dame hotels that’s still standing, the hotel, site of the Bretton Woods Conference in 1944, is part of the larger Bretton Woods resort, which features a ski area across the street, a golf course, and extensive trails for nordic skiing in winter and running/cycling in summer.

Running the trails and extensive grounds of the Mount Washington Resort is a special treat. The hotel is located 30 miles northwest of North Conway. The best way to experience this hotel is to run from Rt. 302, up the long driveway, for 0.6 miles to the hotel entrance. Then, you can run on the grounds to the side of the hotel and in the back, past the pool, the perimeter of the golf course, and other hotel facilities. This can easily be 2-3 miles. One can add to the run by enjoying some of the wooded trails in the back, which are part of the 100 km of trails that are used for nordic skiing in winter and available for mountain biking in summer. The hotel can also be accessed from roads near the AMC Highland Center, about 3.5 miles east of the resort.

Note: there might be someone at the gate near the hotel entrance, and there might be a charge for use of the nordic/mountain bike trails. In winter, might be reserved for X-C skiing.
