This is a nice 4-mile loop around Easter Lake in southeastern Des Moines, nearly entirely on off-road paths and multi-use trails. A good place to start is the parking lot at Easter Lake Park off Evergreen Ave. Our route heads counter-clockwise around the lake, following a path alongside a road, and then the Mark C. Ackelson Trail. Quite a bit of the path is wooded — but there are also some spots with nice water views.
Add-On/Options: A connector trail at the northwestern end of the lake heads for 0.6 west to Ewing Park, where there’s another ~1 mile of roads/paths suitable for running. At the southern end of the lake, one can do an extra 0.75 miles around Yeader Creek Park.
Essentials
- Lake loop is 4.1 miles (6.6 km)
- 152 feet (42m)
