The Tanana Lakes Recreation Area in the south of Fairbanks is a popular destination for boating and beaching in the summer, and ice skating in the winter. It’s also a good spot for a run year-round. There are motorized and non-motorized trails throughout the park, as well as a selection of gravel service roads. In summer, the 6.4 km loop around these service roads is a great option. The Sandpiper and Eagle trails can be used as cross-country additions.
In winter, the multi-use paths in the southern part of the park remain open — see the blue ‘multi-use’ trails on the winter trail map. Note that running is not permitted on the ski trails in winter. Keep an eye out for snowmobiles!
