Maidan (Brigade Parade Ground)

The Maidan park, located along the Hooghly River in central Kolkata, is one of the most popular areas to run in the city. One can easily put together a run of nearly 10 km without ovrelapping. There is plenty to see, from the marble Victoria Memorial to the Fort Williams army base to the Eden Gardens stadium. Runners can also head out to the Hooghly Riverfront and run along the waterfront between Howrah Bridge and Vidyasagar Setu Bridge (4 km). The waterfront path is mostly brick while other park paths range from asphalt roads to earthen trails. We recommend exploring the whole park at your leisure, but we’ve also mapped a 9.5 km tour for inspiration. Our route takes a loop around the park, starting from Victoria Gardens, running through Garer Maath and Eden Gardens, along the waterfront to Vidyasagar Setu, and back through Fort William.

Longer Run/Add-On: From Babughat Park at the northern end of the park, you can run along the waterfront path to the Howrah Bridge, through Millennium Park. It’s ~2.5 km (or, 4 km along the water between Vidyasagar Setu Bridge and Howrah Bridge. You can also combine this with our Alipore neighborhood route, just south using the Alipore Bridge.
