Porsgrunn/Skien metropolitan area, located in Telemark county in southeastern Norway, has a population of about 100,000. These waterfront cities are in an area of lakes, fjords, rivers, and islands. There’s some scenic running in Porsgrunn, taking advantage of the waterfront location.
We’ve mapped two routes in this area. The best place to run in Porsgrunn is a scenic waterfront route, following the Porsgrunn River and then a path along the west side of the Gunnekleivfjorden (fjord). In Skien, located 8 km north of Posgrunn, there’s nice running along Hjellevannet Lake & the Skeinselva River. Trail runners will find lots of options: longer coastal paths, more rugged hill trails, and forested trails on the area’s numerous islands.
