Go for a run on an artificial mountain built with the rubble of buildings bombed during the Second World War! Monte Stella, better known as the “little mountain of San Siro”, is located in the QT8 district in north-west of Milan, about 8km from the center and an easy train ride on the NM1. With its height of 49m, it’s a great place for those who want to spice up their running with some hills.
There are several km of paths in this park. We’ve created a route on a mainly paved path from the Uruguay subway station (can also access from QT8 subway station). It’s a ~1.5 km ascent, gaining 25m. Add on with other paths in the park (not paved, some a bit more rugged). At the east end are paths around some landscaped gardens, XXV April Field, a historic sports venue with a great running track, where great champions of athletics and triathlon still train themselves.
Add-Ons: There are several parks near the Uruguay subway station that can be added: Giardini Vieira de Mello, and the larger Parco Aldo Aniasi, which features lovely meadows connected by tree-lined paths. Also the adjacent Boscoincittà (“Woods in the City”),
