Uhuru and Central Parks

Jennifer Wu

One of the most central running options in Nairobi, this string of green parks at the intersection of Kenyatta Ave and A104 offers plenty of pathways and lots of good people watching, although it can get quite crowded. Most of the streets around the perimeter of the park have good sidewalks (adding up to about 3.6 km), but there are plenty of interior cross paths where runners can escape the din of busy streets. The loop around the Uhuru Dam is particularly nice, and the green lawns of both parks dish out great views of downtown Nairobi.

Longer Run: Combine with the Nairobi Arboretum, only 2 km away. Use State House Rd. (no real sidewalk or shoulder, but there’s a small lane for walking next to the parked cars).

NOTE: As of April 2023, Uhuru and Central Parks are closed for renovation. We will update when completed.

Essentials
  • 3.6 km (2.2 miles) loop
  • 45 meters
  • Kenyatta Ave
  • GPO Bus Stop
