Holly Springs: Bass Lake Park & Womble Park

Wikimedia Commons

This is a run on paths around two pleasant parks in Holly Springs, about 1/2 hour from Raleigh. Bass Lake Park is a popular spot featuring trails, conference facilities, a nature center & picnic pavilions. A gravel path goes around the 2-mile perimeter of Bass Lake (0.4 miles is on-road), half with with nice water views, with the other half being more wooded.

For a longer run, a 1.3 mile connector trail, the Carl G. Jean Greeenway, leads to Womble Park, which features several sports fields, baseball diamonds, and paved walking paths that form a figure-8 loop of ~1 mile. Overall, a route combining both parks and the connector is ~5.0-5.5 miles. One can also take Grigsby Ave. past Snugg Farm to vary the return. Our thanks to Stephen Puryear for submitting this route!
