Bower Ponds, Waskasoo Park, Maskepetoon Park

There’s some lovely running just west of downtown Red Deer, combining paths around Bower Ponds with multi-use trails that lead to Waskasoo Park or Maskepetoon Park. There are more rugged trails in each of those park that are nice for trail running. We’ve mapped two separate routes.

Bower Ponds to Waskasoo Park. This 9 km out & back route starts with a scenic, paved 1.3 km loop around Bower Ponds, with some nice water views. Then, head south along the paved multi-use path along the Red Deer River to the Riverlands Pedestrian Bridge, which crosses the river into Waskasoo Park. Then, enjoy the Waskasoo Park trails, which are dirt-surfaced and a bit more rugged. Combination of open & wooded, with a pond at the north end.

Bower Ponds to Maskepetoon Park. Similar start with the Bower Ponds loop, then take the paved path along Kerry Wood Dr. for 2 km. Run along the north bank of the Red Deer River for 0.5 km, and then enjoy the dirt paths around Maskepetoon Park (~2.5 km loop). Retrace your steps to the start.
