Ocean City & Rehoboth Beach

Rehoboth Beach: Best Running Options

In addition to the miles of beach running and the 1 mile boardwalk, there are some other good running options in the Rehoboth Beach area.  Our two main recommendations:

Side Streets/Residential Area. We’ve mapped a pleasant 5-mile route that incorporates pleasant residential side streets between the beach and Rt. 1. Pretty homes, sidewalks, and shade! The best streets for running are west of the beach to the canal, between Tidewaters Rd. to the north and Silver Lake to the south. Also a very nice section around Silver Lake. ROUTE MAP

Path To Cape Henlopin State Park. From the north end of Rehoboth Beach, a path along Ocean Dr. leads for 1 mile to Gordons Park State Park. Then take the Gordons Pond Trail, for 3 miles. It’s beautiful. Many options to extend in Cape Henlopin State Park, including several bike loops and other multi-use paths in the area.

Cape Henlopin State Park. Six miles north of Rehoboth Beach, this park has terrific running options: a 3.3 mile paved bike trail, and several nature trails, some of which might have softer sand.  Our favorite is the 3-mile Gordons Pond Trail.  TRAIL MAP

The “Side Streets/Residential Area” was awesome. I’m in RB for work. I’m not the type of person to “like a run.” To me, miles are miles; but the beauty of this run and the homes in the route are something to behold. I made it 6 miles (pacing 8:15), started at daylight finished at night. The areas adjacent to the boardwalk naturally get busy and I slowed down to respect the residents, and ran a relatively slower than normal pace to take in the scenery.
