Wilbraham: Rice Preserve & Other Area Trails

Google Street View

Wilbraham is an eastern suburb of Springfield, and features a number of good options for trail running. This website has a good list of the options, with links to each and good detail. A few of our favorites are below:

Rice Preserve. It’s worth the half-hour drive from Springfield to enjoy some scenic trail running at the Rice Preserve. There are 3.4 miles of trails, with terrain that includes woods, open fields and farmland, and a peach orchard. This trail map shows the various trail options, and parking area. Note: no facilities. One challenge — and scenic run — is the Sunrise Peak Trailwalk, which climbs 660 feet over 1.3 miles from the the Highmoor Dr. entrance to Sunrise Peak. There are some great views out to Monson, Hampden, and the Berkshires.

Fountain Park. Easy, flat trail running on a former pheasant farm. A bit closer to Springfield. 2-mile trail, including a dirt road section in the power line area. Information

Add-Ons: There’s a nice network of relatively traffic-free roads in the eastern part of Wilbraham area that make for a nice country run. Note: no shoulder on these roads.
