If you’re staying in Stellenbosch, this is a nice way to explore the city’s oak-shaded streets. We’ve created a route using Victoria St. as an anchor, with some offshoot recommendations.
Jan Marais Reserve. Google Street View
Start in central Stellenbosch at the corner of Victoria St. & Andringa St. Victoria St. is one of the prettiest streets in Stellenbosch, oak-lined and with a wide sidewalk/cycle path. Run east on Victoria St. for 1 km. Then, enter the Jan Marais Nature Reserve and enjoy its lovely dirt paths, interesting trees & plant life, and nice views. A loop of the perimeter is ~1.7 km, though there are additional paths to explore. For the return, take Marais Rd. south for 0.5 km to Van Riebeeck St., a pleasant road passing by some of Stellenbosch’s nicer homes.
Add-Ons: Off Victoria St., explore Stellenbosch University. North of Victoria is the campus, and south of Victoria is the Botanical Garden and Museum. There’s a running track at Danie Craven Stadium, just south of Van Riebeeck St. Another nice road to run is Noordwall Oos St. & Sudwal St., which run on either side of a small stream.

Two scenic reserves 10 km east of Stellenbosch. AssegaiBosch has easier trail running along the Eerste River. The larger Jonkershoek is larger & has challenging trail running in the majestic Jonkershoek Mountains & valley. Fees and daily usage limits.
Our recommendations for some of the scenic, quiet wine roads just outside Stellenbosch. Create your own route on these rolling hill roads passing by wineries with views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
