River Paths in Maumee & Side Cut Metropark

In Maumee, located 9 miles south of downtown Toledo, there’s some pleasant running along the river, plus additional paths in Side Cut Park and around the Fallen Timbers Battlefield and Fort Miamis National Historic Site. We’ve put together a loop of 7.5 miles, but this terrific map shows the numerous additional trail & loop options in the area.

Our route starts at the Sidecut Lock, just north of Conant St. Three are great water views here. Run south alongside the river for up to 3.7 miles on the Riverwalk/ Orange/Wabash Cannonball trails. There are nice views of the water on these trails passing through Side Cut Metropark. For the return, we’ve used some of the interior trails for variety, though you can create your own route here.

Add-On/Option. Just west of the river paths but part of the same ‘area’, there’s a nice loop around the Fallen Timbers Battlefield and Fort Miamis National Historic Site. The loop is 1.5 miles on a crushed stone surface with interpretive signs. To access the site from the river path, it’s 1 mile using the Blue or Red/Fallen Timbers trails to the Fallen Timbers Monument, then crossing SR 24.  Can also continue on the Wabash Cannonball Trail for a longer run.
