St. Louis, MO

Forest Park

Running in Forest Park is a delight. Located at the western edge of St. Louis, the 1,400-acre, park is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. The host of the 1904 World’s Fair, Forest Park is home to some major city attractions including the Missouri History Museum, the St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Science Center, St. Louis Art Museum, several small lakes, and numerous sports facilities & recreation fields.

For running, there are several miles of trails covering a wonderful mix of terrain, including open green spaces, landscaped sections, & forested areas. You can lose yourself in the interleaving  trails, try this 10k ‘perimeter route‘ from the Visitor Center, or the dual signed loops on the trail map: 5.56 mile asphalt loop/5.66 mile gravel loop. We’ve also mapped a 7.5 mile interior loop passing all the landmarks inside of the park, including the Emerson Grand Basin and the St. Louis Art Museum.

Nice add-on option: ~1 mile west to the Washington University of St. Louis, and then another ~1 mile to downtown Clayton, along Forsythe Blvd. Also some pleasant suburban/residential running on side roads.
