There are plenty of trails in the mountains surrounding Lac d’Annecy, but most routes are better left to experienced trail runners. The exception to the rule is Semnoz, located in the hills just west of Saint Jorioz. A popular ski area in the winter, Semnoz becomes a hiking and running paradise in the summer months, with miles of smooth dirt pathways leading through green meadows and ridgelines. Runners can start at the ski area and explore the trails in any direction. Many visitors also take the lift to the cross atop Semnoz and run along the ridgeline. We’ve mapped an easy-ish 6.5 km course starting from here. The footing is good on a wide path, but it is hilly.

It’s a good idea to pick up a trail map when in the Semnoz area.
