Lecce: ‘Runseeing’ Tour of Centro Storico

Creative Commons: Giuseppe Milo

Lecce is a city known for its baroque buildings, important churches, and Roman Amphitheater. The best place to run in Lecce is our ‘runseeing’ tour of the city’s historical center (Centro Storico), located inside the SS16/Via F Calasso. There are a lot of narrow, twisty streets and the historic center is mainly pedestrianized.

Get up early to beat the crowds and create your own route, using our map as a guideline. Start at the Porta San Biagio (ancient gate) or at the Piazza del Duomo (central plaza). Use V. Palazzo to get to the main piazza, the Duomo. Around there, the two longer streets are V. Emanuele and V. Trinchese. You’ll pass the Cathedral of Lecce, Roman Amphitheater, and the Castello. Do a loop around the Giardini Pubblici Giuseppe Garibaldi (formal public garden), and then take V. Matteotti/V. Prato just out of the center to cross V. Universita, for a tour of Villa Reale (park). Cross back over and take V. Libertini for the return.

Add-On: Add with your own route along the narrow, windy streets of the historic center.
