Five Mile Creek Greenway

Google Street View: Ace Mauldin

The Five Mile Creek Greenway offers one of the easier off-road opportunities for a longer run in Birmingham. Due to its dense vegetation, it’s also a good option on a hot day. Located about 10 miles north of downtown Birmingham, the crushed stone path follows a former rail bed along Black Creek for 5.5 miles between Black Creek Park and Jew Hollow Road. Much of the path is fairly wooded, with glimpses of the creek through the vegetation.

There are trailheads and parking in Black Creek Park, Children’s Park, Fieldstown Rd., & Jew Hollow Rd.

Note: there’s a plan to extend this trail 16 miles.

Essentials
  • 5.6 miles (9 km) one-way
  • 294 feet (90m) one-way, west to east
  • East End: Black Creek Park. There are three other trailheads.
  • Four trailheads/parking areas
