The best running in Boca Raton is along A1A (Ocean Drive), paralleling the water. There is a bike path or good sidewalk most of the way. The views alternate between water, buildings, and foliage. There is not a lot of shade, so be aware in hot weather. It is possible to run on the beach, depending on tides and other conditions. Aim for low tide for the best beach running.
We have used the intersection of A1A and Palmetto Park Road, as the anchor point. There is a bike/running path for 8.5 miles north of Palmetto, nearly to Atlantic Blvd.
Heading north toward Palm Beach, a nice stretch is the 2.5 miles between Palmetto and Spanish River Rd., passing through the lush Spanish River Park, where there are about 1 mile of dirt/sand side trails. North of Spanish River Rd., you lose the ocean views, but gain more shade and views of some spectacular oceanfront homes. Other distances, heading north from Palmetto:
- 2.5 miles- Spanish River Rd.
- 6.6 miles- Linton Rd.
- 7.7 miles – Delray Beach
Headed south toward Deerfield Beach, it is 6.8 miles to the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse. However, there is only path/sidewalk 3 miles south, to Deerfield Pier. Distances, heading south from Palmetto:
- 1.3 miles – Camino Real (Boca Raton Resort, big pink building)
- 2.5 miles- Deerfield Beach Pier
Caution: No Sidewalk south of Deerfield Pier. Not Safe for Running
- 3.0 miles- Deerfield Beach/ E.Hillsboro Beach Blvd.
- 6.85 miles- Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse
