Cape May, NJ

Cape May Point and Lighthouse

The Cape May Lighthouse is one of the top tourist destinations on the Jersey Shore, so why not go see it on your own two feet? This route incorporates a jaunt along Sunset Boulevard to Sunset Beach, and then a dip down to the Lighthouse, making for a scenic, relatively traffic-free run.

Start on Sunset Boulevard, at the east edge of South Cape May Meadows (1 mile south of the southern end of Beach Ave.) and run for 1.3 to Sunset Beach, enjoying a nice wide bike lane at its shoulder. Double back and head east on Lighthouse Ave, another nice, runnable street which ends after about 1 mile with rewarding views of the namesake Lighthouse. With some backtracking, this route equals out to about 4.5 miles.

Add-Ons/Variations: Take a shortcut through the sandy paths of Cape May Meadows to return faster. The quiet, university-named streets around the Lighthouse and Cape May Point are pleasant and quiet for running, with nice homes. Can add about 1 mile here. Can also start the run or extend it to the southern end of Beach Ave., which is 1 mile from the South Cape May Meadows.
