Greenville Downtown and Historic Districts Tour

Wikimedia Commons: Bill Fitzpatrick

One can put together a fairly pleasant run in downtown Greenville, exploring the commercial sections of Main St., several small parks, and some attractive residential winding through four historic districts. A few ‘connections’ between these areas aren’t so pretty. Follow our mapped outline tour or use it as a guide to improvise and create your own route. Note: hilly!

Start at Falls Park on the Reedy, and head north on Main St. for 1 mile to Mcpherson Park. Numerous shops & restaurants, Kilgore-Lewis House. Do a quick tour of the park, then head east on Park Ave., through the Heritage Historic District. Turn RIGHT on Wilston St., heading north into the Colonel Elias Earle Historic District. Then head EAST on Earle St. for 0.8 miles, heading to the Overbrook Historic Dstrict (RIGHT on Column St. to Stone Ave., then LEFT on Hilly, LEFT on Becker, LEFT on Overbrook). Run through Hessie T. Moriah Park, and then RIGHT on Hillside Dr. to East Washington St., turning RIGHT to head west for 0.5 miles, skirting Cleveland Park. Turn RIGHT on Boyce Ave., passing the Museum & Library of Confederate History, and then LEFT on Pettigru St., through the Pettigru Historic District. Use East Washington St. to Spring St. to return to the start. Option: It’s a bit longer, but prettier — head back to Cleveland Park, and take the Swamp Rabbit Trail for 2 miles to Falls Park on the Reedy.

Add-Ons: Numerous residential streets around the historic districts. See also our East Greenville Route.
