Another great spot for a run in the Poughkeepsie area is the Locust Grove Estate. Owned by Samuel Morse, the Tuscan villa sits on 150 acres bordering the Hudson River. There are 5 miles of carriage road trails laid out in the 19th century that are a joy for running — no cars or bikes. The trails wind through woods and meadows, with nice views of the river. Note: See the website for information and opening hours. The grounds do not require an admission fee.
Add-On: The residential streets immediately west of Locust Grove are pleasant for running. There are numerous other running options in Poughkeepsie. Closest is Vassar College, 2 miles west. Also nearby are the our Hyde Park and the Walkway over the Hudson routes.
