National Monument Complex

The National Monument (abbreviated “Monas” in Indonesian) is a 132m tower located on Merdeka Square in Central Jakarta. The monument was constructed in the 1960s to symbolize the fight for Indonesian independence. The monument is surrounded by an 80 hectare park, one of the largest city parks in Asia! The park is also a very popular central-Jakarta running spot thanks to its well-maintained tracks and big trees which provide welcome shade. Our route is a perimeter loop around the park, but there are many options to explore the tracks that run around the monument. This route can also be combined with the Sudirman Road run on car-free Sundays.

Essentials
  • 4.2 km (2.6 miles) loop
  • 11 meters (36 feet)
  • Monas Park entrance at the end of Jl. M.H. Thamrin (by the Thamrin Fountain roundabout)
  • Car or Bus (I Blok M – Monas Corridor line)
