Ao Nang, Thailand

Creative Commons 3.0. kallerna 1.

Ao Nang is a resort town in southern Thailand’s Krabi province. It’s known for its lovely white sand beaches, and is also a departure point for trips to dive sites and rock climbing on Railay Beach.

The best places to run in Ao Nang are on the area’s beaches, which are generally wide and flat, with fairly firm sand. It’s also possible to run on the road/boardwalk along Ao Nang and Hat Noppharat Thara beaches. Highway 4203 out of town also has a decent shoulder and is safe for running for those who’d like to get in some distance. Our thanks to Joylin Nodwell for suggesting this location!

Note that it can be hot and humid, and the beaches are open exposed. Best to run early!

The weather in Krabi is tropical, with consistent temperatures year-round. It’s pretty much between 32-35C (90-95F) by day, and 21-23C at night. There are distinct wet and dry seasons — driest December to March.

There’s a Nike Factory store just outside of town.
