Leuven is a lovely, small city located 25 miles east of Brussels. It has a beautifully preserved old town, highlighted by the gothic town hall on the Grote Markt (“Great Market“), beautiful guild-houses, and Sint-Pieters church. It’s also home to KU Leuven — Belgium’s largest university — and Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest beer brewer. There’s some delightful running in Leuven, with a nice variety!
A great way to start is with our Leuven ‘Runseeing’ tour, featuring the highlights of Old Town. The best place to run in Leuven is our route combining KU Leuven and paths along the River Dye. Near there is another route showcasing wooded paths in the Heverleebos and adjacent nature preserve. We also love running in Provinciedomein Kessel-Lo — Leuven’s largest park, which can be combined with extensive canal paths in the area.
Leuven is only a 20-minute train ride from Brussels. Leuven itself has a decent bus system and some local trains.
