Lusaka, Zambia

Central Lusaka Best Running Options

Wikipedia

While this run won’t win any awards for scenery, it’s possible to stitch together a ‘runnable’ route just east of Lusaka’s Central Business District. Using Independence Ave. as an anchor, create your own route combining the area around government buildings east of the CBD, and some of Lusaka’s more affluent residential neighborhoods. This is also an area of expats, hotels, shops, & restaurants.

We’ve mapped a route along Independence Ave. for ~7 km between the Kafue Roundabout in the CBD and the Woodlands Mall, in the tony Woodlands neighborhood. Independence Ave. itself has a decent sidewalk most of the way. Starting at the roundabout, there are quieter roads with ‘sidewalks’ just north of Independence Ave. in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood around the National Museum, numerous government buildings, and embassies off United Nations Ave. Continuing east and then south, the Ridgeway and Woodlands neighborhoods come off of Independence Ave., and there are some quieter residential roads.

Just north of the Woodlands Mall, there’s some decent running along Busuma Rd. along the eastern side of the Lusaka Golf Club, and then along leafy streets just south of Twin Palms Rd. between the Kabulonga Roundabout and Old Leopards Hill Cemetery.
